About the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro with explanations of general interest about the Organization, and on dates where the spectacular competitions will be held.
The Rio de Janeiro city will be the host city of the Olympic Games of 2016 or 36th Olympiad. The decision was announced on October 2, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The city will host the 2016 games paralympics games as well.
These games are also called the summer Olympic Games, since there is also the winter games, also held every four years.
How the preparations are being made?
For a big event like the Olympics is required much preparation, providing an infrastructure for the hosting of the games. So is a project of extreme magnitude.
To this end the Committee Rio 2016, whose aim is to organize the first Olympic Games of the Brazil and South America. The not-for-profit organization.
More than 140 1000 people will be taking part directly in the Organization of this event, being 7 1000 members of the Organizing Committee, 65 1000 people hired and more 70 1000 volunteers.
What are the opening and closing dates?
The Olympic Games will open in August 2016 5 and closed the day on August 21 of the same year. The Paralimpíadas will be opened on 7 September and finished on 18 September of the same year.
Where will the opening and closing ceremony take place?
The Grand opening ceremony will take place in maracana Stadium as well as the closing ceremony.
How many countries and athletes will participate in the 2016 games in Rio?
About 200 Nations of all continents of the world will send athletes to compete in its various modalities.
It is estimated that more than 10500 athletes take part and thousands of media professionals, the support areas, sports fans and tourists from all parts of the Earth will come to Rio to the big event.
How many will be the sports? Will there be new modalities?
According to the Organizing Committee, will be 28 Olympic sports, all traditional and two more with the latest 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The news is the Rugby Sevens and golf that will make its Olympic debut in Rio.
Where will be held the contests | Locations of Games
The competitions will be held in 4 areas of the city strategically studied to receive the various sports. In these regions or Olympic zones will be used already existing or sports facilities built for the event. Some of the new facilities can be temporary or character of ephemeral life, fitted only to the event and then removed, or to be used after the event and through establishing sport and emergence of new athletes.
The greatest concentration of games and competitions will take place in Barra da Tijuca where the Olympic Park will be built. Below is the Division of the games.
The 4 Olympic Zones
- BARRA Zone (West Zone covering Barra da Tijuca, Rio and new Center area Olympic Park)
- DEODORO Zone (In the north zone of the city)
- MARACANÃ Zone (North and Central Zone of the City includes Marcanã Stadium, Ginásio do Maracanãzinho, Maracanã Aquatic Park and Sambodromo)
- COPACABANA Zone (South Zone of the City includes Copacabana, Marina da Glória and Flamengo Park)

Most of the events will be held in the West Zone of the city, in the region of Barra da Tijuca. The places marked with PO are on the Olympic Park area of Rio, an extension of the sports city sports complex.
What is it and how is the Olympic Map
The Olympic map is a graphical representation and visual of the locations where there will be competitions in the city, divided into zones or regions. Through this map we can see where every kind of sport and competition mode will happen in their proper places and facilities.
What is the Olympic Park?
The Olympic Park of Rio de Janeiro will be one of the biggest highlights and spotlight of the Olympic Games 2016 in the Olympic Barra Zone. It is a huge sports complex consisting of numerous buildings erected in the grounds of the former Jacarepaguá Autrodrome, whose official name was Nelson Piquet Autodrome.
On site there are already some constructions which is legacy of theh 2007 Pan-Americanos Games. The place was called "Sports City".
Will occur games outside The Rio de Janeiro City?
Yes, the football competitions also take place in Salvador (Fonte Nova Stadium), Brasília (Mané Garrincha Stadium), Belo Horizonte (Mineirao Stadium). In São Paulo, originally it was planned to use the Morumbi Stadium, but is likely to be used the brand new Arena Corinthians aka The São Paulo Arena.
